SCCM DP Reinstall

This trick is used to reinstall an SCCM Distribution Point without first uninstalling the DP role. This appears to be the same method SCCM uses to update DPs after an upgrade on the Site Server.

Open up the distmgr.log on your site server. Use this to monitor progress as you go.

Open up SQL Server Management Studio, right click on your site <DB, CM_???>, select new query.

Paste and run the following to find the FQDN of the SCM DP you wish to reinstall:

SELECT * from DistributionPoints

Copy the server name you want to trigger the reinstall on, then paste it into the SQL command below…and run it.

UPDATE DistributionPoints
SET State = '0'
WHERE ServerName like 'DP-SCCM-XXX.CORP.COM'

Open the “Service Manager” tool, in the SCCM console, under \Monitoring\Overview\System Status\Component Status
In the top menu bar, under START, click the Configuration Manager Service Manager.

In the Service Manager window, go to COMPONENTS -> SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER

CLICK STOP… RE-QUERY (Ctrl+Q) UNTILL YOU SEE IT STOPPED, THEN CLICK START…

Now watch the distmgr.log and you should see the reinstall start up in a few seconds…
